The vocational development education for higher vocational college students is part of social education. It’s the urgent development need of not only the students themselves but also the society. Our country is a large agricultural one, so the vocational personnel of agricultural science and technology can be one of the key factors in agricultural economy development. At present, we don’t have enough understanding of how the higher vocational education should cultivate high-quality skilled talents towards the countryside and our society. The students’ vocational development can not adapt to the basic requirements of the industrialization of agriculture. All these have become the restrictive factors to higher vocational education and agricultural development. It is thus evident that the agricultural vocational colleges carry the mission of cultivating the high-quality skilled talents serving the rural economy and social development. However, the students’vocational development requires that they should not only have vocational skills and learning abilities, what’s more important, have vocational ethics, vocational spirit and vocational development consciousness.Taking the agricultural machinery application technology as an example, targeting the new rural construction as well as aiming at students’vocational development problems, this article probes the students’ vocational development and its effectiveness from the following aspects:good vocational mentality, various vocational skills, vocational qualities and abilities. These probes will have certain basic roles in promoting new talents training mode, building college characteristics, promoting students’ future employment competitiveness and the ability of serving the society. The paper firstly analyzes vocation and vocational problems, aiming at seeking theoretical basis of vocational development. By making a comparative analysis about domestic and international vocational development research results, the basic elements and key points of vocational development are clarified, and the types of occupation and their vocational demands involved in agricultural machinery application of higher vocational college are summarized. Secondly, taking the agricultural machinery application technology as an example, this paper discusses talent demands and the status quo, and find out the restrictive factors of the rural economic development, aiming at giving basis for promoting students’ vocational development and their role playing in the new rural construction. Thirdly, in view of the vocational development requirements, the paper carries out the four mechanisms in the construction process of vocational talents training scheme through concrete countermeasures, thus ensuring the orderly vocational development and good quality of the students. Finally, from the angle of agriculture and agricultural application-oriented enterprises, the paper discusses the construction of vocational development education evaluation system of agricultural machinery application, and the establishment of the information feedback mechanism which should be adjusted ceaselessly and constantly to revise vocational development education strategies and targets.In a word, studies on students’vocational development and its effectiveness are closely combined with the talents training needs. Whether the students have vocational development abilities and basic qualities or not is an important indicator of measuring the higher vocational education quality. Through researching the relevant vocational development results from home and abroad, with the agricultural machinery application technology as the carrier, combined with the work of today’s vocational training and new requirements for educational reform, the paper introduces students’vocational development concept and probes student group vocational development. Based on the assessment mode and the status quo, we should enact personalized and socialized vocational capability education and establish vocational development system so as to provide a basis for better achieving students’ vocational development goal and its combination with teaching and educational practice and ability training, and this research hopes be an applicable demonstration in this field.
