In recent years, the secondary vocational schools and highervocational institutions have trained large numbers of personnel withwonderful skill and ability for our society. However, with this greatsuccess, the problem, emphasizing on technical training while ignoringthe humanistic cultivation, became sharp. The general reflection fromthe enterprise shows that most graduates are with qualified skills butpoor in ideological and moral training, which goes with the lack ofresponsibility, innovation, comprehensive ability as well as careerpotential. Considering the urgent call for the skilled workers withhumanities from the society nowadays, I think the suggestion onoptimizing the humanities curriculum in all vocational engineeringschools for the comprehensive, coordinated and sustainabledevelopment of the students is of great importance. According to thesample survey on the humanities education in Wuxi automobileengineering school, I found that more and more vocational schoolswere on the way of trying building model or system for the humanitieselective curriculum and demonstrating their ideas. Because thehumanities elective curriculum is complex and irregular in its constitution, there is no way to offer perfect teaching syllabus or templates, which isthe must for the highly developed public curriculums. Such a poorsituation both in quantity and quality of the humanities curriculum cantsatisfy the teachers, students and graduates. However, it must be takeninto consideration that there is a long time, in which adjustment, adaption and reform often happen, for any curriculum to origin, develop and be mature. As a result of it, the administrative departmentof education who is responsible for giving the curriculum requirements, the school teaching affairs administration who gives the curriculum planand execution plan, the teachers who do the teaching all feel puzzled to find no matured methodology as their guidance. This article, basedon the notable concept "horizon of expectations" taken from Jaussaccepted aesthetic theory, is looking forward to making a research onfinding such a guidance. By studying the research home and abroad, Igot that the concept "horizon of expectations" had been put intopractice for text translation, art appreciation, and news aesthetic. Theintegration of the courses Chinese, English and politics in middle andprimary schools is also the result of this practice in the field of education. This integration has caught many educators eyes and numerousteachers have already done something about it. All these contributeda good reality foundation to involving me in the further study of "horizonof expectations" which is helpful to setting up the humanities electivecurriculum of the engineering schools and institutions. Combining theresult of the questionnaire with the the survey of the curriculum in theseschools home and abroad, I seek to get the new teaching strategyunder the principle of the pedagogy and the new curriculum reformideas, for broadening students horizons of life and increase theiraesthetic experience, which can meet their need of aestheticappreciation. In my opinion, this try will be meaningful to our researchon the humanities elective curriculum.
