Curriculum Reform of the Second Phase launched in1998createdthe “Connect-Separate-Connect” combined science educationsystem on science education. Therefore, Shanghai secondary sciencecourse is simultaneously taught in two subjects. i.e. science andchemistry. Comprehensive science curriculum is set in Grade Six andSeven and separated chemistry curriculum in Grade Nine. The changedemonstrates that science teaching is developing in the direction ofbreaking subject core frame and emphasizing on STS education. Butmeanwhile, gaps between science and chemistry connection turn updue to the limited teacher resource, the gap between science andchemistry teaching period and the lack of knowledge betweenteachers towards each other’s teaching contents. Teachingconnection between separated chemistry and comprehensive scienceis a problem to be solved urgently, which plays an important role inscience and chemistry study and teachingThe research mainly consists of the following parts:The first part is to tell the background and history of setting upscience curriculum in Shanghai by referring to documents and analyzethe status quo of science and chemistry connection research, in orderto make clear the aims and significance and select proper ways toresearch.Next, through Text Analysis, comparison and connection analysisare made towards chemistry part in Shanghai Secondary Science(Oxford Shanghai Edition) and Chemistry (Shanghai Edition) of GradeNine: Firstly, make comparison in terms of curriculum standard, includingcurriculum theory, curriculum aims and contents and requirements;Secondly, make connection analysis in terms of teaching materials:cover and compare the chemistry part in secondary science and related contents in chemistry of Grade Nine. And according to thethree rules, i.e. arranging contents in terms of knowledge points, integrating contents appropriately and absorbing and removingcontents properly, five connection topics are confirmed and analyzedand they are “Science Experiments”,“Composition and Structure ofSubstances”,“Quality and Usage of Ordinary Substance”,“Solution”,“Combustion and Energy” respectively. Then, two lesson cases of connection teaching are designed fromthe angle of science and chemistry about two main topics:“ParticlesForming Substance” and “Solution” selected from the five connectionteaching topics, followed by some useful methods on connectionteaching. Grade Seven is the experiment target during the period ofconnection research, which is to check if the connection teaching inscience teaching is helpful for students to learn chemistry, and havegained some measurable results. The final part is to think and reflect about the research and find theprospect of the following research.
