In August2002, Chinese elementary education entered a new round of teaching reform. A new type of teaching concept and a new kind of learning style were flourishing in38experimental districts of China, and music text books were rewritten under the guidance of the new curriculum. New text books not only focus on the teaching of traditional singing skills but also pay great attention to the humanization of music education. Experimental textbook according to national curriculum standard of compulsory education (Music) published by Hunan literature and Art Press, which is written on the basis of the concept of new curriculum, taking aesthetic as the center, culture as the main line, subject as the base point, and paying attention to the humanization, aesthetic and practicality of music education. This textbook is prepared around the concept of " Promoting national culture and understanding cultural diversity", which selectes a large number of Chinese folk music and Western music. The author here analyzes the western music in the textbooks of primary and secondary schools and the current situation of the music education in primary and secondary schools. By comparing the music textbooks of primary and secondary schools of Hunan province with the curriculum of western music history, this paper concludes how the western music history teaching in normal universities adapts itself to the development of the music education in primary and secondary schools. It also provides suggestions on how to combine the music teaching in primary and secondary schools with the curriculum teaching of western music history in normal universities, which can help us use textbooks better under the guidance of new curriculum, and achieve the overall objectives and requirements of new curriculum. Meanwhile, this thesis provides suggestions on the improvement of the western music history teaching in normal universities, which also helps to develop the education concept of new curriculum and indicate directions for music teachers who are demanded by the current education market of elementary music.
