The thesis, by suggesting applying the online news English to the teaching ofEnglish in senior high schools as a supplement to the textbook, aims to explore how tofully achieve the five teaching objectives and three teaching key points stipulated in TheNew National English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools.A literature review is applied to learn from the experiences and researches made byexperts in English education and other related fields. Based on the establishment of therelationships among online media English, cognitive pcychology(schema, chuncking,framwork), constructivism, interactive teaching method and The New National EnglishCurriculum Standards for Senior High Schools, this thesis asserts that the application ofonline news English can improve the teaching efficiency.In the section of empirical research, a questionnaire is conducted to determine thestudents’ attitude toward the online English and their interest in this method. Thefindings are positive: more than79%students are interested in the method. Then a smallmulti-media datebase is established, which is in parallel to the topic of each unit anddownloaded from English websites, such as China Daily, Beijing Rewiew, China Today. Thedatebase is used in the teaching activities. The students are highly motivated and their learningperformances are greatly improved.The innovation of this thesis is to seek a comprehensive way to improve theteaching of English in senior high school by establishing a link among relative conceptsof cognitive psychology, constructivism teaching methodology, The New NationalEnglish Curriculum for Senior High Schools, and the interactive teaching methods. Thefinal purpose is to help achieve the five teaching objectives and three teaching keypoints stipulated by the New Curriculum Standards.Meanwhile, there are also some limitations of this thesis. For example, the methodsuggested above is not suitable for big classes and schools requiring collective teachingpreparation. Furthermore, owing to this author’s lacking of academic research andteaching experiences, this thesis needs to be improved in terms of theoretical depth andargumentation.
