With its reform and implementation, the National English Curriculum Standards make a rule that the senior high school English learners should reach four levels. The four levels contain sixth grade, seventh grade, eighth grade and ninth grade. Sixth grade and seventh grade are compulsory in the four levels. The National English Curriculum Standards emphasize the cultivation of students’ integrated language ability and put forward the requirements on language knowledge, language skills, learning strategies, emotional attitude and cultural awareness. The senior high school students should meet the requirements in English learning. Therefore, textbook compilation should focus on developing students’ integrated language ability. With the policy changed from one textbook published based on one syllabus to many kinds of textbooks based on one syllabus, more and more English textbooks can be on in the market. Education administrative departments, schools even teachers get more freedom in choosing textbooks. However, the variety of textbooks has challenged the supreme status of textbooks in English language teaching. The analyses of different kinds of textbooks become necessary.Senior English for Schools published by Chongqing University Press is one of the four widely adopted English textbooks in Chongqing. By far, the analyses of it are few. So this paper will be an analysis of Senior English for Schools by Chongqing University Press. And I choose the Senior English for Schools Compulsory(1)by Chongqing University Press to be the research object. Firstiy, it is representative because it is a compulsory textbook in Senior English for Schools by Chongqing University Press. Second, it is very important to be a good start because it is the first book in Senior English for Schools by Chongqing University Press. So this paper will be an analysis of the Senior English for Schools Compulsory(1)by Chongqing University Press based on the National English Curriculum Standards. This is an internal analysis. It is done to see how far the Senior English for Schools compulsory( 1) can meet the requirements of the National English Curriculum Standards, and find out the advantages and disadvantages of the textbook. There are two parts in my analysis. One is macroscopic analysis, the other is microscopic analysis. The part of macroscopic analysis contains teaching aims, teaching methods and the organization of teaching materials in Senior English for Schools compulsory(1); And the part of microscopic analysis includes language knowledge, language skills, learning strategies, affect and attitudes and cultural awareness specified in the National English Curriculum Standards.Through both macroscopic and microscopic analysis, it is found that the Senior English for Schools compulsory(1)emphasizes cultivating students’ overall language ability, using advanced teaching methods and emphasizing developing students’ learning strategies. However, there are some problems in Senior English for Schools compulsory(1). Such as, the vocabulary is too big, the topic is less interesting and the part of cultural awareness is ignored.
