Nowadays, with the rapid development and popularity of multimedia informationtechnology, and the improvement of the teaching condition, most of senior schools arewell equipped with the multimedia. The introduction of multimedia brings us newteaching methods, offers the English teaching more energy than ever before andincreases the students’ learning abilities. New English Curriculum for Chinese SeniorMiddle Schools (hereafter Curriculum) specifies that the students are expected to “usethe internet and various other resources to gather and process information effectively,and according to the need the students should learn to arrange, summarize and analyzethe information” under teachers’ guidance. So it is a necessary to apply themultimedia to language teaching in Senior Middle School. Based on the interest andknowledge about Multimedia Assisted Senior English Teaching (MASET), the authorcarries out a survey about Multimedia-Assisted Senior English Teaching (MASET) inNo.3middle school in Zhangzhou.In order to have a clear understanding about the current situation of MASET inNo.3middle school, this thesis investigates from some aspects such as the level ofteachers’ Computer Rank Examination certificate, their attitude towards MASET,teachers’ theories about MASET, and the difficulties in using MASET. Thus, a resultwill be analyzed and discussed after the investigation.The survey is conducted among English teachers in No.3middle school, basedon the questionnaire and interview. The major findings are as follows: classroom hasalready been well equipped with multimedia and most teachers have a positiveattitude and enjoy it. Multimedia and network has played an important role in MASET.However, some teachers lack of modern language theories about MASET, whileothers don’t attach importance to the courseware, and the frequence of makingcourseware is low. These problems impede the improvement of MASET in theEnglish course. In line with the results of the survey, some possible pedagogical suggestions areput forward. Firstly, teachers should change their teaching concepts and keep pacewith the modern society. Secondly, teachers are required to learn about theories ofMultimedia Assistied Senior English Teaching (MASET) and put them into practice.Thirdly, teachers are supposed to strengthen the relative skills about MASET.Fourthly, teachers are demanded to set up the correct multimedia assisted teachingconcepts. Fifthly, teachers should be expected to put emphasis on the interactivetraining between teachers and students in the MASET class. Lastly, schools shouldperfect the multimedia equipment and upgrade the multimedia equipment frequently.
