English reading is an important part of senior high school English teaching as well as one of the purposes of English teaching.Therefore,reading is especially important in the process of teaching and learning.However,the traditional teacher-centered teaching model is a common phenomenon in senior high school English teaching.Because students’ autonomous learning ability and learning motivation are influenced by this model,there is no significant improvement and development.To solve this problem,the application of the multimedia-assisted language teaching to English reading has become an essential thing.In this paper,the author focuses on these three issues:1.What effects does multimedia-assisted language teaching have on senior high school students’ autonomous reading ability?2.What is the influence of multimedia-assisted language teaching on senior high school students’ learning motivation towards English reading?3.To what extent does teaching assisted by multimedia-assisted language improve students’ achievement in English reading?This empirical study was carried out in Kazuo No.1 Senior High School,Chaoyang City,Liaoning province,lasting for 20 weeks,from September 3,2018 to January 20,2019.The students from two parallel classes in Grade Two were selected to conduct the study.Class One was chosen as the experimental class(EC)and Class Two served as the control class(CC).Research instruments included questionnaires,pre-and post-test and interviews.The data were analyzed by qualitative and quantitative methods with the help of SPSS 19.0.The research results can be obtained that multimedia-assisted language teaching can promote students’ reading autonomy,stimulate students’ learning motivation,and improve students’ reading ability.Hence,it is feasible to apply multimedia technology to senior high school English reading teaching in spite of some limitations.Finally,the author discusses the enlightenment and suggestions gained from the research,hoping to inspire the future research.
