| In1954, the ministry of education of Taiwan announced a joint recruitment and examination among four public colleges, and began to implement a unified joint enrollment and test system (hereinafter referred to "joint college entrance exam"). Due to its close link to hundreds of thousands of people, joint college entrance exam attracted great attention and discussion from all walks of life since its implementation. By the1970s, the economy in Taiwan grows rapidly and the society modernization of Taiwan speeds up as well. In such process of social transformation, the old problem existing in joint college entrance exam becomes more serious, and the new problem emerges one after another. Therefore, the discussion about the gain and loss of joint college entrance exam as well as the suggestions of reform increases gradually, which can be demonstrated from a number of descriptions in an influential journal of intellectuals’speech called "China Forum"The journal of "China Forum" established in1975and suspended in1992. The period of more than ten years was just the brewing time of the reform of Taiwan’s joint college entrance exam system. In February1976, the ministry of education of Taiwan set up "college entrance examination committee", and since then the ministry of education directly involved in the work of joint college entrance exam; in1992, the ministry of education of Taiwan proposed "multiple college entrance solution", brewing opportunities of the reform of joint college entrance exam. In2001, the ministry of education of Taiwan abolished the joint examination, and determined to formally implement the new plan of multiple college entrance since2002, realizing the separation of college entrance exam. The thesis attempts to research the care and concern of the intellectuals of "China Forum" to the joint college entrance exam in the process of social transformation, analyzing their exploration of the solution to the problems in joint examination in order to promote the innovation and development of the joint examination and accelerate Taiwan’s social modernization.The thesis includes four parts. Chapter one gives a brief analysis on the founding background of the joint college entrance exam system in Taiwan, an overview of its foundation and evolution, a deep analysis of the main problems existing in the evolution of the joint examination, and an introduction of the journal of "China Forum", including its founding, ambition, characteristics, and concern to the problems of the joint examination. Chapter two and three are the main parts of the thesis. Chapter two elaborates that the journal of "China Forum", a mass media for early warning, keenly discovered the defects of the joint examination, and paid attention to its influence to the social modernization from four aspects, i.e. joint examination and college education, joint examination and family life, joint examination and social development, joint examination and individual development, reflecting the journal’s care and concern to the joint examination. Chapter three explores the purpose and principles of the proposal by the intellectuals of "China Forum" to make the joint examination reform so as to establish an open and sound society, and introduces the various reform solutions. Chapter four briefly introduces the official reform situation of the joint examination and discusses the interaction and participation to the official joint examination in the journal "China Forum"The journal "China Forum" concerns education during the social change, and probes into the problem of the joint examination, puts forward several suggestions to solve the problems by combining theory with reality, utilizing public opinions to affect the decision of the competent department of education, making the change of joint college entrance and examination change in a reasonable way and conform to the goal of social modernization. An open society and government thus acquire the advancement and promotion from the power of knowledge. |
