Culture serves as the springhead of textbooks. Cultural selection of textbooks, which is pursuant to certain standards of value and position, based on a certain social and historical condition, is a process of the carding, investigation, analysis and reflection on social culture. The process contains the negative digestion to eliminate certain society culture and the positive construction to absorb some others. Cultural selection of textbooks is a cultural creative activity supporting for human development as its ultimate goal, which transforms culture material into the textbook knowledge for the purpose of standardizing and guiding the people’s cultural concepts and practices through the utilization of resources, process development, cultural reproduction, the reorganization of knowledge and other means.The article is the multidimensional systems analysis, theoretical exploration and empirical research on the cultural selection of geography textbooks. Which is from the perspective of culture, in the theory framework of Culturology, Educational Culturology, Multi-cultural Theory, Cultural Cycle Theory, Geography Pedagogy, regarding the cultural selection on geography textbooks as the object of the research. It aims to provide theoretical and practical effective reference suggestions for the implementation of new Geography Curriculum Reform, the compiling of geography textbooks’editors, the application of teachers and students, by reflecting the cultural selection of geography textbooks.This article is divided into seven parts:The1st chapter mainly expatiates the background, the object, the methodology, the significance, and the formation of the research. Form the Cultural Power Policy in the Party’s Sixth Plenary Session17th and the environmental background of the Curriculum Reform, it concludes the teaching research results of the senior school in China in recent years, especially about the current situation and problems of geography textbooks. In conclusion, combining with the New Curriculum Reform, it is ground-breaking and necessary from the perspective of culture to study the cultural selection on geography textbooks.The2nd chapter primarily discusses the relationship between cultural selection and geography textbooks. First of all, the article defines the cultural selection of textbooks. Then it illustrates the complex relationships between cultural selection and geography textbooks from a cultural perspective, which provides the theoretical foundation for the following research.The3rd chapter attempts to construct the Multidimensional Analysis System of the cultural selection on geography textbooks. Based on three basic steps for structuring a system, first of all, this chapter discusses the necessity for multi analysis, and then selects and defines relevant dimensions and its specific operational targets, on the purpose of constructing the Multidimensional Analysis System Model of the cultural selection on geography textbooks, which bases on five dimensions&"1*6+4*2" specific operational targets as the footstone.The4th chapter mainly verifies the feasibility and scientificity about the Multidimensional analysis system model of the cultural selection on geography textbooks. It bases on the3rd chapter, setting geography textbook III as an example, to analyze from the following aspects:the content (geography, economics, politics, language, art, and environmental ethics), the time (2003edition&2009edition), the region (case-regional®ional versions), the gender (male&female), and the class (urban&rural).Part Ⅴ, it primarily concludes the characteristics of the cultural selection on geography textbooks. As an independent educative culture pattern, geography textbooks should not only be the cultural existence, but also a culture of accumulation, a culture of inheritance, a culture of reconstruction. So it should contains the following trait properties:first is "selective" selecting the superior and eliminating the inferior; second is "sequential", corresponding before and after, spiraling ascension; again is "integration-creativity; Furthermore, it ought to follow and implement "transcendence" and "vitality" in the practice of the three above properties.Part VI, it provides some recommendations for strengthening the multi cultural selection on geography textbooks in senior school. Textbook is the important carrier of inheriting the mainstream culture in school education. It plays as an important example to guide students’ cognition development, capability formation, personality construction, self-examination in the process of socialization. This chapter, which is on the basis of analysis in the Multidimensional Analysis System Model of the cultural selection on geography textbooks, illustrates the relationship among textbooks, editors, teachers and students, then provides some recommendations for strengthening the multi cultural selection on geography textbooks.Part VII, pointing that culture is a stove which contains an unlimited space and unlimited number of substances, so the cultural selection on geography textbooks is a complex and long term issues, need to be further explored.
