From the perspective of the access to compulsory education, this thesissystematically examines the internal mechanism that the access to compulsoryeducation affects the social stratification in minority areas of Yunnan, and it alsoexplores ways and means to promote equitable access to compulsory education inminority areas and to realize social justice. This thesis is based on the followingaspects: combing domestic and international literature on the relationship betweensocial stratification and compulsory education opportunities, putting socialstratification and access to compulsory education in minority areas into theframework of social transformation and educational transformation, basing onquestionnaire of1457families of National autonomous prefectures in Yunnanprovince and on two periods from1949to1978and from1978to now.Minority areas proposed and validated to show that the access to compulsoryeducation affects the social stratification in minority areas (1949to1978); meanwhile,eight hypotheses proposed and validated to show that the social stratification inminority areas affects the access to compulsory education (1978-present). Inaccordance with principles of SPSS13.0for windows and structural equationmodeling (SEM), the thesis analyzes data both exploratory factor(EFA) andconfirmatory factor (CFA), and the foundings are: from1949to1978,①access tocompulsory education of elder generation has a significant impact on offspringinstitutional factors (household registration and workplace nature ofoffspring);②access to compulsory education of elder generation has a significantimpact on offspring ascription factors (family social capital, family cultural capital,family economic capital and family political capital);③access to compulsoryeducation of elder generation has a significant impact on offspring postnatalfactors(political outlook and religious beliefs). While from1978tonow,①i nstitutional factors of elder generation has a significant impact on access tocompulsory education of offspring (household registration and workplace nature ofoffspring);②ascription factors of elder generation has a significant impact on access to compulsory education of offspring(family social capital, family cultural capital,family economic capital and family political capital);③postnatal factors of eldergeneration has a significant impact on access to compulsory education of offspring(political outlook and religious beliefs).Measure tools designed in this study can provide basis points for nationalrelevant empirical studies. The founding are available for exploring the relationshipbetween social stratification in minority areas and access to compulsory education.
