The Current Situation And Countermeasures Of The College Students’ National Spirit Cultivation With Martial Arts Education As A Carrier

With the economic globalization and cultural diversity, some western countries promotevigorously the cultural hegemony by virtue of its comprehensive national strength,international influence, funding and technical advantages. College students, due to thecharacteristics of age, psychological and networks involvement, have become the"differentiation" focus of Western hostile forces. In the face of the interaction of differentthoughts and cultures of the world, in the face of such plots as "Westernization","division"and competition for the next generation from the hostile forces. The State Council issued"opinions on Further Strengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Education For theCollege Students", which points that "strengthen and improve ideological and politicaleducation for the college students to improve their ideological and political quality, andtraining them into the builders and successors of socialism with Chinese characteristics, withfar-reaching strategic significance for the full implementation of national rejuvenationthrough science and education and this strategy to ensure that our country is always invinciblein the fierce international competition, to ensure the realization of building a moderatelyprosperous society and accelerating the socialist cause. National spirit plays an important partin the ideological and political education. In the report of the16th CPC National Congress,Comrade Jiang Zemin pointed out:" the national spirit is the spirit of a nation’s survival anddevelopment support."Chairman Hu Jintao also stressed that "Chinese culture is aninexhaustible motive force for the Chinese nation to keep forging ahead in unity. The"heritage of national culture" and " the promotion of the national spirit" has become thestrong tone of the era for Chinese nation. The cultivation of national spirit needs a carrier,needs to be internalized as the spiritual pillar of the college students according to practical education and teaching activities. Chinese martial arts, as a typical representative of thetraditional Chinese physical culture, also permeated with the thoughts, ideas, and even valuesof traditional Chinese culture, by the nourishment of the spirit of the Chinese nation andexuding the pulse of the national spirit in its development. Therefore, the study on the statusand countermeasures of the college students’ national spirit cultivation through the martialarts education as a carrier is the subject worthy of further exploration.The literature method, the empirical method, history of logic and empirical method arecombined in this paper. With the literature method it collects a large number of domestic andforeign achievements in this research area, and summarizes the development trends of thestudents’ national spirit cultivation by martial arts education after studying, contrasting,filtering these data, which provides further study of the research with theoretical basis. Bysearching and analyzing related information of the years1994-2011on the CNKI Net, it liststhe following problems existed in college students’ national spirit nurtured bymartial artseducation:(1) Stress on sport, lack of a large martial arts concept;(2) Martial Arts educationsystem has not yet formed;(3) weak professional martial arts teachers;(4) obsolete textbooks,appraisal system is not nearly reasonable;(5) poor equipment in venues. The causes leadingto the above problems include: Chinese martial arts culture (1) the loss of the Chinesemartial arts causing the development of alienation;(2) the monopole development ofcompetitive martial arts makes education department focus only on the sports properties ofmartial arts;(3) weak teacher teams for the failure of protection from the education system;(4)the lack of protection from the education system makes textbooks obsolete and the appraisalsystem unreasonable;(5) universities do not attach enough importance to the management ofvenues and equipment configuration. On the basis of issues and causes this paper proposes thesolution as the following:(1) to establish a large martial arts concept and focus on thepenetration of the martial arts cultural spirit;(2) to clear the status, goals and content ofmartial arts education;(3) to train high-quality martial arts teachers to carry the new task ofcultivating the college students’ national spirit;(4) to update the martial arts teachingmaterials and create a reasonable evaluation system to guide the martial art education;(5) toset the national standards of martial arts venues and equipment and improve the materialprotection of the martial arts education;(6) to develop martial arts association of collegestudents actively and diversify the ways to cultivate the college students’ national spirit. Alsothe specific implementation of security is proposed:(1) The nation heightens the awareness of the martial arts education;(2) Martial arts research is much stressed;(3) The protectionprovided by the colleges and universities for cultivating college students, national spirit.
