The Study Of Urban Identity Of Hefei Ethnic Floating Population

With a mass of the ethnic floating population swarming into the city, their urban identity problem has aroused the attention in the academic field. This study considers the urban identity problem of Hefei ethnic floating population as research object, using participative observation, depth interview, small symposium and other methods to carry out systematic field work on Hefei ethnic floating population (such as the Hui,, Dongxiang, Salar, Tibetan, Uyghur nationality and so on), and gets a lot of first-hand material. On the reference of the existing research results, based on the field investigation, we analyze the status of the urban identity, the effect factors and the ascension path to urban identity of Hefei ethnic floating population.In any case (economic dimensions, social aspect or cultural dimensions), the city is very different form the minority nationality areas. In the process of flowing into the city, the ethnic floating population is experiencing not only the space of migration, but also the conflict and collision of culture. They are adapting to the urban constantly, and achieving the urban identity. Through the investigation, we discover that Hefei ethnic floating population lacks the sense of identity and belonging to the city. Because of the nationality, area, religious faith and the time they stay in city, the urban identity of the ethnic floating population is different. In the process of urbanization, the modern production mode, consumption mode and social interactions have had a huge psychological impact on the ethnic floating population. What’s more, in the influence of a number of variables, such as religious faith, ethnic culture and regional customs, their process of urban identity seems more complicated. The effect factors of urban identity of Hefei ethnic floating population include institutional barriers, national culture and personal factors. And the institutional barriers are the most important factor. The emergence of these effect factors are closely related to the government, society and the ethnic floating population. So, to promote urban identity of the ethnic floating population, they should make joint efforts.After entering the city, the ethnic floating population is faced with urban identity dilemma in different degrees. They are the inevitable requirements of harmonious society to share the fruits of development with each ethnic group’s people through promoting urban identity of the ethnic floating population, and speeding up the convergence to the city.
