"Marginal man" writing is an important theme through Su Tong’s novel creation. Hechooses town writing based on "Maple Poplar village" and "Xiang Chun Tree street", to returnthe bottom of a life and pay attention to the unimportant persons. The paper selects the theme of"marginal man" narrative as a breakthrough research point. Through the analysis of the spiritconnotation and existing characteristic about "marginal man" with the narrative skills in SuTong’s novels, we can grasp Su Tong’s novel creation overall.This paper tries to grasp the novels’ theme and narrative strategies from the marginperspectives to skills by intensive reading Su Tong’s novels. The body part of the paper delimitsand classifies the "marginal man" in Su Tong’s novels firstly. Then the paper establishes thenarrative strategies of "marginal man": the margin narrative perspective, the margin narrativeskills, the cause of "marginal man" writing. The wholes text is divided into six major parts:Introduction, the paper combs Su Tong’s novel creation and research status briefly, andmake a simple description of the theme about Su Tong’s novels. The text chooses the "marginalman" theme above the research.The first chapter, Su Tong’s novels concern the marginalized mortal beings. Define theconcept to "marginal man", and according to the social position and existing situation ofcharacters in a large number of Su Tong’s novel, define and classify the "marginal man"appeared in his novels, including wandering soul between urban and rural, the man in the bottomof the city, people who excluded by the history and political discourse, the "germination festeryoung life", as well as the unfortunate and fallen women. These marginal groups cove all of edgecharacters type appeared in Su Tong’s novels. Through the classification of " marginal man"image, we can grasp the theme and focus on "marginal man" about Su Tong.The second chapter, Su Tong use many margin perspectives to write "marginal man". Theperspective is an important means of narrative. Man’s perspectives include: childhoodperspective, fool perspective. The perspective of content is mainly about animals and plantsperspectives, as well as the ghost perspective outside the people and thing. The unique narrativeperspective makes Su Tong catch the real and existence life.The third chapter, Su Tong uses many margin narrative skills to write "marginal man". Theskills mainly include: fantasy memory and fragments combination, deconstruction to the main history, description of the daily life and the dark imagery and atmosphere. The narrativestrategies are not only an art of shaping "marginal man", but also accord with the characters’ lifeand mentality.The fourth chapter, this paper discusses the reason to Su Tong’s "marginal man" writing.Natural factors and human factors have an important effect on writing. As a writer bored in the"Cultural Revolution" and matured in the contemporary, the age factors, unique childhoodmemories effect the inevitable Su Tong. Also the southern city culture and foreign literatureinfluence make an important influence on Su Tong’s attention to "marginal man".The conclusion, summarize and discuss the meaning of Su Tong’s "marginal man" writing.Su Tong doesn’t count as a mass writer, he always sticks to his own writing position andhumanistic care. What he does has an unique historical and realistic significance. In historicallevel, Su Tong concerns "marginal man" survival predicament can reflect the irrationalunderstanding and expression. In reality level, he pays attention to the "margin" and grasps theexistence of individual life, which shows contemporariness and reality."Marginal people"writing about Su Tong’s novel also has a certain value and significance for grasping the series ofmarginal figures in the contemporary literary figures.
