Liu Dehai, the famous Pipa artist, educator, and composer in China, is consideredas the outstanding representative of pipa artists in the modern times of China. He notonly opened up a new field for the innovation and development of the pipa’s technique,but composed lot of music at Pipa; he created many new pipa’s words in his own styleon the basis of following the tradition, injected new idea for the pipa art, and exploredthe diversified developing path in the field.The thesis will combine the music composed and recomposed by Mr Liu Dehai toconclude his left and right hand’s innovative techniques. Focusing on interpreting Mr.Liu Dehai’s aesthetic concepts and artistic ideas through “Life chapter”,“idyllicchapter”,“religious chapter”, as well as the new traditional music, exploring the spiritof humanism projected in the music and the outlook on life of pursuit of "the true, thekind, and the beautiful". It includes three chapters:Chapter1, Mr Liu Dehai’s artistic career, briefly describe his artistic experience andChapter2, with Mr. Liu Dehai’s works, this chapter mainly lists and summarizes theinnovation of traditional techniques and the adaption of innovative techniques andmethods of playing, as well as his original methods of playing of non-musical specialsound effects.Chapter3, this chapter focuses on theoretical analysis of the individual traditional musicand the series works recomposed by Mr. Liu Dehai, description on the specific role ofthe individual innovative techniques played in the music, analysis of the deeperphilosophical concepts contained in the music.
