Chow Bronze Dragon Art Test

In my opinion,dragon patterns include Taotie,Kui,Phoenix Kui,Dragon Kui,Dragon Pan patterns and so on, a group of related patterns on bronze in Shang and zhou period. There are so much doubtful points in the research of the patterns on bronze after I consulted each views of RongGeng, MaChengYuan and ZhuFengHan. For example, professor Zhang said that most of the bronze patterns look like Taotie together and Kui separately. At present, most of scholars exclude Taotie pattern form the dragon pattern system. In addition there are a lot of problems in the definition and classification of Taotie,Kui,Phoenix Kui,Dragon Kui patterns.In history,most definitions of bronze patterns decide by later generations’surmised. According to ancient document literatures including oracle bone and characters on bronze,none showed what is the correct name of the patterns on bronze that person in Shang dynasty called. Everybody agreed that the name of the patterns we made all most unconvinced. But they can not took a credible name. Obviously, the old system of patterns has defect all along. Then, I established a general system of dragon pattern when I tried to summariz the development of dragon pattern on bronze in Shang and Zhou dynasties.Also I introduced variety forms of dragon patterns respectively. Unscrambling the connotation of dragon patterns is key of rebuilding the social reality of Xia Shang Zhou dynasties by our scholar in my view. I think that they are the most abundant historical materials three dynasties leave to us which is the most difficult explainning patterns especially the dragon patterns on bronze. The dragon patterns are all capriciousness,mysterious and abstract.They are the ideal result of the combination of human natural and sociality.It fully emerged gorgeous fruit of the first peak period in the history of art in china.The first chapter in my paper belived that the old system of patterns has fatal defect through the analysising of the definition and classification issues todays. I think dragon pattrens are both changeable and distinctive through a large number of dragon patterns pictures on bronze in Shang and Zhou dynasties.I tried to analyzes their causes and stated the rational definition of dragon pattrens together with historical literatures. In the second chapter I tried to summariz the development of dragon pattern on bronze in Shang and Zhou dynasties.I divided it into three parts,early and mddle of Shang dynasty,later of Shang dynasty and early of Zhou dynasty. Aimed to make people understand the development of dragon pattern on bronze in Shang and Zhou dynasties historic.Meanwhile it can help people construct a clear evolutionary process of the various forms of dragon pattern on bronze. The third chapter mainly analyzed the connotation of dragon patterns on bronze in Shang and Zhou dynasties.It is belived that it is the rainning gods depicted on bronze through the document literatures and antiques. It is a close relationship between the spiritual world and social life of ancients.Finally I belive that dragon patterns are the corporate product of ancients’spiritual world and rule of dynasty.
