| In the first part of this thesis, the author translates Chapter31-Chapter33of the novel The Trail of the Hawk written by Sinclair Lewis, the first American writer who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, into Chinese. The second part is translating review of the translation in the first part. In this part, the author discusses the appropriate translating principles and strategies to be applied, with which the translator can successfully remain the written and language style of the original text. Referring to Newmark’s two translation modes--semantic translation and communicative translation, the author of this thesis illustrates her exploration of the appropriate translating strategies by discussing the methods on dealing with sentence structures and translating cultural images. |
