The best way to express one’s feelings on a modern poet’s works is to analyze its’construction, subject, complex intertextual details and his dictions with personal characteristics, thinking from an integral perspective. This dissertation will follow this way to interpret Zhang Zao’poems. Zhang Zao, with his130-odd poems, is a famous poet in the contemporary Chinese poetry world. His solemn creative attitude results his works under graceful visual format.This dissertation, which has three main parts, is a review of the dialogue construction in Zhang Zao’s poems.Thinking from the antagonistic relations of "danger&rescue", Chapter1will point out that the "danger" implies both the crisis of poetry and the crisis of individual. According to this situation, Zhang Zao adopted the dialogue construction to found a metapoetry writing attitude for its rescue.Chapter2stretches further down to the specific works. By analyzing the image of "the other" in the dialogue construction, this chapter investigates the macro themes and micro objects in Zhang Zao’s poems. The investigation will reveal the process of the danger’s rescue by the poet through his dialogue, while the formation of this process lies necessarily on the metapoetry writing attitude.Chapter3further points out the fact that a relation of representation exists in the double denotation of danger in respect with the crisis of poetry and personal life. The difficulty of saying is the difficulty of life. It evokes the relation between Zhang Zao’s poetry and reality, his views on the reality and criticism, and his poetic ideals.Based upon the above-mentioned analysis, the ending part generalizes the cause and method of dialogue construction in Zhang Zao’s poems. The dialogue construction has an open meaning towards metapoetry and contemporary Chinese poetics.
