Film and TV series are two important means of entertainment. Two decades ago, the option of films or TV series was very limited with most of them made in mainland China or Hong Kong. But nowadays, we have access to movies or TV series from almost any country. It is due to the more friendly cultural policy which allows more good foreign works to be introduced to China. It is also due to the Internet and the development of subtitle translation. The Internet provides us with channels to watch those works, while the subtitle translation helps us overcome the cultural and language obstacles, making the appreciation of foreign works possible. At the same time, more Chinese works are introduced to other countries. The subtitle translation is undergoing the change from mainly "English-Chinese" to "Chinese-English""Chinese-French","Chinese-Japanese", etc.. This thesis focuses on Chinese-English subtitle translation of the TV series The Empire of K’ang-hsi as its research subject, analyzing the "art of elimination" in subtitle translation. Under the guideline of Skopos theory, the thesis probes into the features of subtitle translation and the importance and feasibility of elimination technique, namely, why we should apply elimination technique, in what situation we should apply it and how we apply it in subtitle translation.
