Abstract: This thesis is a study of the narrative art of Xixi’s fictions, which examines the spiritual world behind from four different perspectives; namely, narrative standpoint, narrative language, narrative strategies, and narrative resources. To challenge the mainstream values and established ideologies, Xixi has been practising a marginalized narrative standpoint and a narrative language that is skilled at alienation. She is keen in attempting new expression techniques, restructuring and re-editing the existing motifs and materials, which have brought a board vision and richness of meaning to her fictions. Like a dream teller riding on a magical flying carpet woven with text, with a writing style that interweaves reality with virtuality, Xixi has brought to life an animistic urban organism, calling forth a new understanding of our daily surroundings to the extent of the entire city and transforming the congested urban jungle into a procreative, boundless wilderness.
