In the colonial time, the Chinese education in Hongkong was pressed by the administration government, so the school of Chinese education faced a real tough situation. With the development of Hongkong's social and economic structure since 1980s, the Chinese education has to adjust itself to the enlarging market and One Country, Two systems policy. It is a common knowledge that the current Chinese education needs an innovation, but how to carry on this innovation? Since 1997, the Chinese education became a focus of education innovation. After analyzing the problems appeared in Hongkong's Chinese education, the thesis tries to explain the measures taken by special zone government and the Hongkong society to promote Chinese education , as well as expain the interaction between education and public opinions.The thesis is divided into three parts.The first part points out that it is known to all that the Chinese education in Hongkong is a undeniable truth. There are mainly two reasons to explain this situation: firstly , the colony administration of Hongkong insisted on Emphasize English while neglect Chinese policy. English became the official language , and Chinese was just a local language during that time. Speaking English developed into a symbol of power and a critic people's social status; secondly, due to utilitarian thoughts and small Chinese market, the Chinese education could not find its position in socity. Political factors , economic factors, together with abnormal education factors, deepened Chinese education's weak situation.The second part claims that the Chinese education in Hongkong should take advantage of Hongkong's political and economic structure transfer to contribute the China's unification and development. The return of Hongkong's sovereignty, the consanguineous communication between Hongkong and mainland, the fast development of China's economy, the mass population of Hongkong local citizen, as well as profound Chinese culture background in Hongkong, help much to promote Hongkong's Chinese education. Developing Chinese education in Hongkong is a political, economic and educational request of the time.The third chapter makes a conclusion of the thesis. Since Hongkong's return of China, both the government and the folk made great effort to promote Chinese education. In Hongkong, Chinese, English , Guangdongese and mandarin are all acceptable. Now in Hongkong, most people mainly speak Chinese while accept English. And we can see the history trend of changing Emphasize English while neglect Chinese to Emphasize both English and Chinese. And with China's peaceful revival, Chinese education in Hongkong will have a bright future.
