There are many difficulties in the Teaching Chinese as a foreign language, esp. theseparable words. When using separable words, people have to decide whether theyshould separate the words or not in accordance with the communication needs. Foreignstudents feel it difficult not only in learning Chinese, but also in searching for the mosteffective way to solve the problem. Thai students also have this problem. Because in Thai,there is no concept of separable words, and even the Thai students are not familiar withit in their learning. They often misuse the separable words with the common words. Thenvarious errors are constantly appearing.Many people have realized this problem in Thais’ learning Chinese, while almostnone has made the relative research till now. I just want to make up for the lack. I havechosen verb-objective separable words as the major field to make a comprehensive studyand explore the Thai students’ errors so as to find a relatively reliable way to solve thisproblem.This article is made up of five parts. Part1begins with the significance, the relativeresearch fruit of separable words and the theoretical basis, and then introduces the researchthinking, which takes the specialized questionnaire as the major research method. Thesubjects are the students of Chinese majors in Grade2-4in the universities in Thailand.Part2makes a statistics on the verb-objective words’ using and mastery degree accordingto the withdrawn questionnaire, and then classifies the errors and probe into thecharacteristics of such errors. Part3specialized in probing into the reasons of Thaistudents’ errors, which mainly comes from the mother tongue’s negative transfer, theinfluence of target language knowledge and the teaching method of the teachers. Part4proposes the teaching principle aiming at solving the verb-objective separable wordslearning. It is necessary to emphasize the concept of separable words, then explain themand their expanded forms according to the sequence of the grammar in the teachingmaterials, and adopt some teaching skills, such as questioning, making sentences accordingto the patter, group discussion and so on. In addition, this article proposes detailed teachingpattern, which mainly uses mind map to teach the verb-objective separable wordcharacteristics and assist the teaching comprehensively. Part5makes a comprehensiveconclusion. For the sake of my limited Chinese knowledge and the time, my research rangeis not large enough, so there is much room to make a further study in the future.
