| The intentionality has always been an issue that the philosophers of language concerns. In modern ages, some philosophers of language have transferred it from the field of the philosophy of mind to the field of philosophy of language, making it an important part of pragmatic research in recent twenty to thirty years. Searl considers the intentionality as the primary feature of speech act, holding that the illustration of language meaning is inseparable from intentionality. He further develops the concept of intentionality. This paper starts with sentence meaning, explaining the subjective meaning and the objective meaning with the help of Searl’s theory of intentionality. For the subjective meaning, we mainly concerns the intention. The objective meaning, on the other hand, is expressed by proposition. Thus, this paper mainly illustrates the types of intention of the speaker and the features and different ways of matching between different types of intention and propositions. |
