Lei Shuo, written by Zeng Zao, was an important encyclopedia in Song Dynasty, and it was often quoted by the scholars in the past because of its erudition and concise and appealing extensive contents. However, systematic research of Lei shuo was seldom. The book recorded plentiful of literary sketches that preserved many lost books and sentences. This book,with it’s valuable historical data,can be used to correct errors,collect lost articles,source both information and literary quotations in poems,can still be used to reference data and index items,and it can still supply correct historical omissions.The writer of the essay studied Lei Shuo in the aspects of the author’s experience, different versions and content features of the book, in order to find out the author’s background and characteristics of writing. The writer arranged the unique Literary sketches and sentences and differences between the original books by comparing the book with its own literary sketches in the Tang dynasty. The writer also summarized the historical data value of Lei Shuo.
