"modern Review" Education Thought Research Independently

"Modern Review" is the public weekly in the Republic of China.The people that Hu Shi, Gao Yihan, Yan Shutang, Ren Hongjun and so on write a lot of articles that explore educational issues, all showing the "independent education" ideological tendencies. In this paper, these articles explore the center of independent funding for education, educational and administrative independence, learning and political relations, the academic freedom of thought and other aspects. The independence of the education funding, including the contents of the educational difficulties of the1920s, the analysis of the reasons of shortage of funds,the road of the Boxer Indemnity up schools, the programs should be taken to achieve the independence of education; education administrative independence includes the criticism of the education administration, against the church school to carve up the right to education and the theory of educational administrative independence;The third part includes the relationship between school and governance and how to assess students’ patriotic movement, saying the education sector in the dilemma between political responsibility and academic responsibility;The part of the pursuit of academic freedom of thought discusses the problems of the lack of freedom of speech and other practical problems, analysising and discussing a variety of programs of achieving the academic freedom of thought. These ideas and programs failed to achieve ultimatly, but to fight for the independence of education to a broad space.
