Li Shangyin is one of the most important poets who are active in Late Tang poetic circles. He is also the last comprehensive person on Tang poetry. He is proficient in all kinds of poems, his poems on history, poetry chanting things etc. break through and beyond the inherent the poems of predecessors. Untitled poem is his original creation, and there are many poets and scholars try to give an appropriate interpretation on them. More and more people make explanatory notes on the poems but there is still disagreement and hot debate since the Song dynasty. The explanatory notes on the untitled poems are really intricate.In the Song Dynasty, Untitled was interpreted as pornographic poem; in the Qing Dynasty and Ming Dynasty, Untitled was interpreted as the expression of the poet’s feelings. The commenters had different opinions. Feng Hao thought we should interpret the poems separately, while Liang Qichao thought we should research them broadly. People in modern times like Zhang Caitian and Su Xue explain the untitled poems in different point of views which would keep pace with the incisive views offered by Yang Liu, Liu Xuekai, Dong Naibin, Wang Meng and so on. In these different views, Untitled of Li Shangyin are researched as a single object by Liu Xuekai only, while the others research the untitled poems but Untitled. Although there are great achievement in the research on the untitled poems, but the research on Untitled is still not enough.In consideration of this, this paper will conduct an intensive study on Untitled:Firstly, we will define the concept and scope, distinguish them from the untitled poems, then, we will do closer examination on the type, forms, origin and importance of Untitled.Secondly, as for art, we try to probe into the peculiar symbolism, the characteristic of its rhetoric and the origin of artistic form of Untitled, and from the perspective of literary history, explore the historical roots of its art. At the last of this part, we try to prove "The love" is not opposite to the "The pinned" through the content of love in Untitled. Then in the specific socio-cultural context, we explore the cultural implications of Untitled, and thus deepen the awareness and understanding of the art of Untitled.Finally, from the angle of reception theory, we comb the acceptance and analyze the impact of Untitled since they were created.Based on the above, in addition to the introduction and conclusion, the article is divided into the following parts:The first chapter defines the concept and scope of the Untitled, and analysis the literary significance of the system of Untitled. The second chapter, we do detailed and thorough analysis on the symbolism and the rhetoric of Untitled, and analyze the factors of love in them.The third chapter, we explore the significance of Untitled in the socio-cultural context of Late Tang.ChapterⅣ, we comb the reception of Untitled in the perspective of literary reception. We expect a more comprehensive and systematic comprehension of Untitled through the efforts we made above.
