The changes around them endow them newcreation appeal and motion which are different from the elder generation.It can be easily found thestrong pursuit of freedom and individuality, the shirking and dispelling of the real life, curiousnessand exploration of the future in their light novel. These characteristics endow the light novel alightness which is suitable for the reading psychology of the youth from the contents to the texts.Based on the comprehensive contrastive studies between Japanese light novel and Chineselight novel at home and abroad and the practical cases of Chinese light novel in actual use, thispaper, on the one hand, argues strongly for the reasonable nomination and the suggestion of lightnovel, on the other hand, interprets the embodiment, function and value of the lightness in lightnovel subtly.This paper carries out a specific research from the perspectives of the background andhistory of appearance of the light novel in China, the lightness in text form, the function and valueof the lightness, and the future development for the light novel.The introduction part reviews the researches of light novels at home and abroad, proposes theresearch value, innovation, and research methodology of this paper. Part one explores in depth aseries of social and cultural background of light novels in China from different aspects, such asthe spreading influence of Japanese anime culture, the change of traditional reading form, and thepsychological development features of the contemporary youth. And then it reviews thedevelopment process of the light novel from the emergence to the popularity in China. Part twosummarizes the lightness in content description from the various types of light novels, Concretelyspeaking, it can be gained from the following four aspects, fantasy of the youth, exotic history forthe readers, a light land for the world, description of a series of light images in the novel.Part threeelaborates the lightness of the text form concretely from the change of the transmission styles of the light novels. It mainly shows from the following features, briskness of the reading, lightnessof the illustration, legerity of the publication style and the spryness of the media transmission.Based on the above analysis of the light novels, part four explores the function and the value oflightness deeply which is the unique aesthetic style of the light novels. It mainly embodies frommeeting the different needs of individual psychology, promoting cultural diversity of developmentand facilitating the positive reflection of the theory . With the comparison of developmentcharacters between Japanese light novels and Chinese light novels, part five proposes severalsuggestions and methods to solve the problems occurring in the creative process of domestic lightnovels.Compared with the mature development of the Japanese light novel, the development ofChinese light novel has just begun. Meanwhile, there are still numerous blank pieces for the futureresearch of the Chinese light novels. Therefore, there will be many challenges in the developmentof the Chinese light novels which requires more attention of the researchers.
