Panpipe is one of the wind instrument. Documented about the panpipe from Qing Dynasty has never been interrupted. Archaeological data can be traced it back to the Shang Dynasty, and it has been used until the Qing Dynasty. Sui and Tang Dynasties are the turning point of the Panpipe’s development in China ancient music history, it collects panpipe’s development and superiority from pre-Qin to Southern and Northern Dynasties, wider distrubute than previous, more shape types, a higher level of technology, application range more abundant. After the Sui and Tang Dynasties, with the continued popularity of foreign musical instruments and the rise of townsfolk music, panpipe began to decline, so the panpipe in Sui and Tang Dynasties in ancient China is the last peak. But the conditions of the Sui and Tang Dynasties and the Silk Road opened and prosperity once again, they were also gived the panpipe to spread further conditions for local development.As a cohort analysis of pan ahout Sui and Tang Dynasty, this thesis divided into four parts: First, Archaeological finds and Distribution about the Panpipe in Sui and Tang. This part combines with music archaeological dates and musical bibliography, takes images of panpipe in Sui and Tang dynasties as key point,divide and analyse the Panpipe’s spread in Sui and Tang dynasties; Second , The shape and type of Panpipe in Sui and Tang .This chapter continues the research methods as the first part, conclude and analyse the shape of the panpipe type of Sui and Tang; Third, Copy test about the Panpipe in Sui and Tang. Through the copies of the three different shapes Panpipe of the Sui and Tang dynasties to understanding of the characteristics and production process in Sui and Tang Dynasties; Fourth, Apply of the Panpipe in Sui and Tang. This part paband combination, band arrangement, and applications. Screened from the music and the Sui and Tang historical pan-related content, the panpipe in the Sui and Tang Dynasties applications, combination and arrangement of the band, devoted to specific applications.
