Hakka Proverb Cultural Perspective

As a kind of folk language, proverb is an important part of the folk customs; it comesfrom the folk, which is the crystallization of wisdom from working people in shortform. Hakka proverbs are not only the crystallization of language arts, but also thecarrier of Hakka traditional culture. In the perspective of linguistics and folklore, thispaper has analyzed pragmatic and rhetoric, at the same time, studied with the Hakkaculture connotation from two levels. Material culture, which is satisfied the humansurvival and development, including daily life and production methods; spiritualculture, which is the set of all human consciousness ideology, including moral,dialectical materialist thoughts, religion, the custom of marriage and so on. Then todisclose the unique cultural content of Hakka proverbs. This paper argues that Hakkaproverbs have great social value. Firstly, the proverbs about meteorologicalphenomenon are lively materials on production. Secondly, the ones about customs andheritage are lively advertisements in proving the exchange of folk cultures and thedevelopment of tourism. Finally, the ones about moral thoughts and ideology arelively material on moral culture. Meanwhile, the proverbs play an important role inthe protection of non-matter cultural inheritance.
