Objective:The major purpose of this study was to explore the intervention effect on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy, by retrospective study on the variation trend of tumor maker(TM);and also to evaluate the therapeutic effect index as progress free survival, overall survival time, symptoms and quality of life(QoL). Thus we could provide some certain clinical research evidences and treatment thoughts for TCM therapy on NSCLC patients.Method:The clinical cases were collected from advanced NSCLC outpatient and inpatient of Oncology department, Guang’ anmen Hospital.By retrospective study and inclus ion and exclusion standards, pat ients were divided into two groups:TCM group offered the traditional chinese medicine decoction and injection and Chinese patent medicine, Chinese and Western group cured by chemotherapy and traditional chinese medicine. First some general informations and tumor status were recorded, then the TM (CEA、CA125、CYFRA21-1、NSE)and progress free survival and overall survival time and syndrome integral and QCL (Karnofsky and weight) collected every two periods of treatment. In this way we explored the variation trend of TM in TCM therapy on NSCLC patients, progress free survival, overall survival time and the improvement of symptoms and QoL.Results:1. the variation trend of TM:①CEA:Compared the serum level of second and fourth and sixth months, there had statistical significance(P<0.05) between TCM group and Chinese and Western group. About the TCM group, the CEA level remained stable in the first2months and went up later. That of Chinese and Western group increased significantly at first, fell down then, and stayed still higher than that of TCM group in sixth month.②CA125:The CA125level had obvious differences between two groups in the second and fourth and sixth months. That of TCM group kept relatively stable from beginning to end. While in the Chinese and Western group, the level after six months treatment were lower than the base line, descending significantly in the early treatment and rising later.③CYFRA21-1: Two groups had statistical significance (P<0.05) in the second and fourth months, and did’t show the differences in the sixth month. That of TCM group kept relatively stable throughout the treatment. And that of Chinese and Western group fell down first and rose later.④NSE:The level of two groups showed no differences in the sixth month treatment (P>0.05). While the trends of it were all falling down in the first two months, staying a while and going up later. Survival time:①progress free survival:To TCM group and Chinese and Western group, the middle PFS were5.5vs7months, the longest PFS were12.5vs14.5months, the shortest PFS were both1month. And there had no statistical significance (P>0.05) between two groups,②overall survival lime: To TCM group and Chinese and Western group, the middle OS were15vs17.5months, the longest OS were25vs31months, the shortest OS were3vs1. And there had no statistical significance (P>0.05) between two groups.3. the therapentic eva1uation of TCM symptoms: After the six months treatment,19patients (47.5%) had obvious effect and19(47.5%) with certain effect and2(5.0%) of no avai1in TCM group, compared with20(42.6%) and24(51.1%) and3(6.3%) in Chinese and Western group. The effective rates of TCM group and Chinese and Western group were95%and93.7%, all showing good effects on relieving symptoms and there had no statistical significance (P<0.05) between two groups. The syndrome integral of TCM group decresed all along the treatment, and that of Chinese and Western group fell down in the first four months and were stable later.4. the evaluation of QCL:①KPS: TCM group had better effect on KPS than that of Chinese and Western group, and they had statistical significance (P<0.05). After the six months treatment, the KPS rose in15patients(37.5%) and stabilized20(50.5%) and fell5(12.0%) in TCM group, compared with9(19.1%) and23(48.9%) and15(32.0%) in Chinese and Western group. The effective rates of TCM group and Chinese and Western group were88%and68%, all showing good effects on KPS. The KPS of TCM group rose obviously in the first two months and held steady later. That of Chinese and Western group had no obvious changes in the first four months and increased in the last two months,②weight: TCM group had better effect on weight than that of Chinese and Western group, and they had statistical significance (P<0.05). After the six months treatment, the weight rose in18patients (45.0%) and stabi1ized18(45.0%) and fell4(10.0%) in TCM group, compared with10(21.3%) and21(44.7%) and16(34.0%) in Chinese and Western group. The effective rates of TCM group and Chinese and Western group were90%and66%, all showing good effects on weight. The weight of TCM group rose obviously in the first four months and fell a little later. Thai of Chinese and Western group decreased in the first four months and increased in the last two months. Conclusion:TCM therapy has stable and lasting effects on tumor maker of NSCLC patients, while participation of chemotherapy did not show obvious advantages. Two groups showed no statistical significance on progress free survival, but TCM therapy has good advantages of relieving symptoms and improving the quality of life. All these results provide us some certain clinical research evidences and treatment thoughts for advantages of TCM therapy on NSCLC patients.
