Background:EV71can cause hand, foot and mouth disease, also often cause brainstem encephalitis, neurogenic pulmonary edema and other critical complication. In recent years, the HFMD began ravaging southeast Asia.The morbidity and mortality of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) which caused by Enterovirus71(EV71) has been rising, that caused social panic.Morbidity and mortality of HFMD in our country has been rising year by year, since health department took HFMD into the C class infectious disease on May2008. It has become a serious infectious diseases to infant health and public health.However, no effective medicines or vaccines are available to prevent and control HFMD outbreaks in clinic.Method:In present study, we show that andrographolide sulfonate(Andro sulfo) treatment of7-day-old suckling mice infected with a half-lethal dose of EV71-BJ09/07strain (GenBank accession NO. JQ319054). We recorded the weight change, clinical symptom score and survival.There are detection including viral load in brain and muscle by the way of RT PCR test, the pathological damage detection, inflammatory molecules, immune cells.Result:The treatment of andrographolide sulfonate to7-day-old suckling mice infected with EV71-BJ09/07resulted in reduction of mortality, clinical scores and pathological changes in the muscles of mice.The treatment reduces the level of inflammatory factor and improved the level of immune cells. Treatment with Andro sulfo did not reduce the viral CPE on Vero cells and the viral load in tissue.Conclusion:Treatment with Andro sulfo display a good effect based on the complete HFMD animal model. Andro sulfo may be a potential medicine candidate for the clinical treatment of HFMD patients.
