Objective:To investigate the illness-related factors, syndrome characteristics, and evolution of the pulmonary infection with phlegm-heat blocking in lung in the elderly.Methods:(1) Review the records of TCM classic literatures related to pulmonary infection and the constitutional characteristics in the elderly, and summarize the research Progress about pulmonary infection and the constitutional characteristics in the elderly by Modern Chinese medicine physicians.(2) Summarize the resesrch progress of modern Western medicine about pulmonary infection and physiological characteristics of the elderly.(3)Select203cases in Inpatient wards of the DongFang Hospital Affiliated with the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which were all clearly diagnosed as of the pulmonary infection with phlegm-heat blocking in lung of the elderly for clinical observation, From February2011to February2012.(4) According to the diagnosis standards of TCM and Western medicine related to the pulmonary infection with phlegm-heat blocking in lung in the elderly, formulate the observation tables of clinical syndrome, collect and enter the clinical datas into compute, then analyze them with statistical method, the Observation periods are the lth day, the3th day and the7th day in the lth week then7day as a inerval after After admission, Until the patient’s condition improved or death.(5) Analyze of the relationship between the illness-related factors such as age, gender, cause of disease, course of disease and underlying diseases, observe the variation characteristics of lung infection with.Conclusion:Phlegm-heat obstruct the lung syndrome is the most intense stage of the struggle between healthy and illness in the process of lung infection, change rapidly, is of great significance to clinic. Since many elderly people have the basis of organs injuries, with the characteristics of phlegm, blood stasis, and deficiency of both vital energy and yin, often associated with lung inflation, stroke, diabetes, obstruction of qi in the chest, and other chronic disease, it’s easy to bear the wind and heat Evils which could phlegm-heat obstruct the lung syndrome, and with a higher mortality rate. All of these tell us that we must differentiate the syndromes accurately, consider the basis of pathological factors, use appropriate medicine timely in treatment, in order to prevent illness Evils transfer into depth serious, and improve the prognosis.
