Objective:The treatments for cancer generally include surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Studies have shown, more than80%of the cancer patients had chemotherapy experience. Cancer patients require certain constitution for chemotherapy, but side effects appear gradually from chemotherapy, resulting cancer patient have no choice but to stop chemo treatment. After chemotherapy cancer patients have side effects will slow down the recovery process, effects their quality of life, result to relapse or metastasis. The effectiveness of the treatment cannot be estimated due to individual differences and many other factors. More and more cancer patients seek for traditional Chinese medicine therapy after certain impact appears on the physical condition. Some have started to pay attention to the relationship between constitutions of TCM with tumor. Due to personal constitution differences, the outcomes of tumor patients after surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are not the same. The objective of this research is to find out the relationship of cancer patient with different TCM constitution, and side effects after chemotherapy.Method:Selecting diagnosed cancer patients who planned chemotherapy attending Guanganmen hospital cancer department, from2011May till February2012. Each patient received a "TCM constitution questionnaire" which is complied by professor Wangqi. The questionnaire was filled in by the patients themselves and retook on the spot. The researcher with medical background would fill in the questionnaire with consultation to those patients who unable to complete the information; after chemotherapy, the researcher observed and ask the patients about the side effects suffer from the treatment.70cases were collected. The researcher evaluated TCM constitution by grading the marks according to the criterion of nine TCM constitutional type compiled by professor Wangqi. The data was evaluated by the correlation analysis, regression analysis, chi square test with SPSS18.0for Windows software package.Result:1. This study included70cancer patients.29%of the cancer patients showed qi-deficiency constitution, normal constitution24%, phlegm-dampness constitution20%,19%of yang-deficiency constitution, qi-obstruction and yin-deficiency constitution each accounted for4%.Damp-heat constitution, blood stasis constitution and special constitution does not appear in this survey. Lung cancer patients with of qi deficiency and phlegm-dampness constitution account29%, normal constitution19.4%, yang deficiency constitution16.1%, yin deficiency and qi-obstruction constitution each accounted for3.2%. Gastric cancer patients accounts for normal constitution of37.5%, phlegm-dampness and yang deficiency constitution each account for25%, qi-deficiency constitution12.5%. Breast cancer patients accounts40%for Yang deficiency constitution, normal, qi-deficiency and qi-obstruction constitution each accounted for20%. Gynecologic cancer patients account normal constitution of75%, yang deficiency constitution25%. Colorectal cancer patients accounts for the qi-deficiency deficiency33.3%, normal constitution, phlegm-dampness constitution, yang and yin deficiency constitution each accounted for16.7%. Pancreatic cancer patients accounts for the qi-deficiency constitution40%, phlegm-dampness, yang deficiency, yin deficiency constitution each accounted for20%. Other cancer patients accounted for45.5%of qi-deficiency constitution, normal constitution27.3%, phlegm-dampness, yang and qi obstruction constitution each accounted for9.1%. Statistical significance shows in bone marrow depression after chemotherapy and heat performance from the cancer patient after chemotherapy.2. Normal constitution, qi-deficiency constitution and yang-deficiency constitution in cancer patients and toxicity after chemotherapy has statistical significance. Normal constitution in cancer patients after chemotherapy may be more likely to cause bone marrow suppression, cold and heat performance, P<0.05, with statistical significance. In addition, normal constitution of cancer patients after chemotherapy more easily lead to toxicity, gastrointestinal reaction, hair loss, fatigue, fever, pain, P<0.01, significant differences with high statistical significance. Qi-deficiency in cancer patients after chemotherapy more easily lead to toxicity, P<0.05, with statistical significance. In addition, qi-deficiency in cancer patients after chemotherapy may be more prone to cause bone marrow suppression, fatigue, pain, dizziness and headache; P<0.01, significant differences with high statistical significance. Yang deficiency constitution in cancer patients after chemotherapy may be more likely to affect the gastrointestinal reaction, P<0.05, with statistical significance.3. The constitution of traditional Chinese medicine and response evaluation criteria in solid tumors is not statistical significant, P>0.05.Conclusion:1Cancer patients exist more with Qi deficiency, phlegm-dampness constitution and yang deficiency constitution.2Different types of cancer have different traditional Chinese medicine constitution distribution.3Normal constitution, qi-deficiency constitution and yang-deficiency constitution in cancer patients more easily lead to toxicity after chemotherapy.4The constitution of traditional Chinese medicine and response evaluation criteria in solid tumors is not related.
