The Smart Home System combines different devices of our home together with a general monitor interface, and offers a comfortable and safe living environment to the users. Traditional Smart Home System usually uses the technology with wire, which is not flexible enough and hard to maintain. With the prosperity of wireless communication technology, Wireless Smart Home System becomes the new development orientation.The Z-Wave technology referred in this paper is the one focuses on the Smart Home field, with the advantages of low power consumption, low cost, high interoperability and an easy access to development. It will be a good choice of Smart Home System design.The current situation of the Smart Home will be introduced in the beginning of this paper, leading to the conception of Wireless Smart Home System. Then Different kind of Wireless Personal Area Network will be listed, and of them all the Z-Wave technology will be emphasized. After this a complete Z-Wave Smart Home System will be established, with a ZM3102module to control all the nodes in the network, an embedded gateway to exchange the information of the family network and the internet as a bridge, and a web page as the user terminal used for accepting user commands and perform the status of network.The tasks I took in this paper include studying Z-Wave protocol, analyzing the serial communication protocol between ZM3102and the embedded gateway and programing for a application on it which can analyze the command information in a hierarchical way, and make a simple web application to test the whole system.The system designed in this paper can monitor and control the family network, makes for the disadvantages of the traditional Smart Home System such as fixed wiring and inadequate expansibility, is very practical, economic and environment-friendly thanks to its consideration of low-cost and low-power-consumption.
