As people living standard improves gradually, the quality of human life becomes mobile and informationalized. People require more intelligent home furnishing and seek more secure and convenient home environment. Smart home furnishing gets more attention. At present, research on smart home networking is usually conducted via Bluetooth and Zig Bee protocol. Moreover, with the continuous expanding of Internet and the increase of access devices, IPv4 address resources gradually get exhausted while IPv6 is imperative under such a circumstance. Currently smart home perceive devices can not directly access to the IPv6 network and realize end-to-end communication among devices. In order to be linked up to the IPv6 network, perceive devices need to be implemented the IPv6 protocol. However, limited by low power consumption and low data processing capabilities of perceiving devices, IPv6 cannot be directly transplanted into it. To solve the problem, Internet Engineering Task Force puts forward 6Lo WPAN protocol. They also propose the RPL multi-hop routing protocol routing over low power and lossy networks, aiming at dealing with low-power wireless networks. This paper introduces 6Lo WPAN protocol and RPL routing protocol, analyzes the 6Lo WPAN protocol packet fragmentation and reassembly, h eader compression function, RPL routing protocol network process in a detailed way, and simulates the RPL routing protocol on Cooja wireless simulation’s platform. According to RPL routing protocol applicability of the smart home background, this paper proposes the way to improve the reliability of the network which is low power and lossy at present. Now programs and products on the smart home is in a relatively confused state, with no unified standard. This paper brings up a smart home’s design, including the display terminal, gateway, sensor networks and the perceive sensor devices. By needs analysis, this paper realizes the function of smart home such as appliance control, security alarm, environmental monitoring and other useful functions. Smart home demonstration platform is built in the laboratory to verify the feasibility and stability of the program.
