The FSAE car frame, being the installation platform of other assembly parts, suffersfrom complex loads from the racing track. Its structure affects safety, power, handling andstability of the vehicle. Sufficient stiffness and strength are necessary for the frame tosatisfy the assembly and other requirements. Reasonable dynamic performance is helpfulto controlling vibration and noise. In addition, the frame structure should be as lightweightas possible to improve power. Therefore, the optimal design of the frame is very important.In this paper, comprehensive static and dynamic performances of the frame wereanalyzed by CAE software, DASP modal test equipments and e-DAQ stress testequipments. Finally, the frame structure optimization design is realized.The major research contents and conclusions of this paper are as follows: firstly, FEmodel of the frame was established, then modal, strength and stiffness analysis parameterswere calculated, and modal analysis results were accuracy verified by modal test. From theresults of stress test and theoretical strength analysis, the frame stress distribution chart wasplotted, through which the frame design deficiencies were found. Secondly, the40%ODBcrash model of the FSAE car was built, and the40%ODB crash was carried out withLS-DYNA. The distortion analysis, energy absorption analysis and acceleration analysisindicated that safety of the car is poor. Finally, structure optimization design of the framewas conducted on the basis of modal and stiffness sensitivity analysis, the weight of framereduces by3.217kg.Results of this paper have been applied to structure design of the FSAE new car frame.It plays an important role in analysis and structural design, and effectively improves themanufacture level of FSAE car.
