Xuzhou Of Mountain Cui Home Courtyard Hall Design Research

With the continuous development of the socio-economic and cultural, traditional houses subject to the extensive attention of the academia.Due to its advantaged geography, the buildings of Xuzhou’s have been influenced by the Northern and Southern China’s architectures profoundly and gradually informed its own unique features, among which Cui Family Grand Courtyard has been admired as the crown of the northern Jiangsu dwellings, especially its magnificent hall design. The courtyard has lasted more than a century and been fulfilled with a lot of historic information. This thesis makes a brief introduction of the courtyard at the beginning, systematically analyzes the planning design, constructional techniques and cultural connotations of the hall. This part of contents are consisted of different hall patterns, single-shaped building, cluster distribution, building materials, wall structure, building structure, decoration craft, cultural heritages, moral reflections, geomantic cultures and aesthetic terms. In the meantime, this paper has also done some textual researches on the courtyard’s Xihua hall and "reconstructed" the hall’s interior eaves decoration by the means of supplementary computer3D model while scientifically explored the reconstruction techniques of interior eaves on ancient buildings. Through a series of researches, the thesis aims to protect the cultural heritages of Jiangsu’s folk dwellings well and study the design essences of time-honored Cui Family Grand Courtyard. What’s more, these advantaged design techniques can be further appreciated in the modern housing designs as well as made it forward.
