The traditional design of mechanism needs engineers consulting a large number of mechanism manuals and pictures, and using their actual experience, to confirm the scheme of mechanism, imagine the concrete structure of mechanism, calculate the dimensions and parameters of its components, finally strike out the mechanism through further improvement. This method is not only inefficient, but also poor-quality.To some extent, its quality largely depends on the experience of the engineer. So we should change the traditional design method of mechanism, use the advanced measurements, to shorten the cycle of mechanism design and improve the design quality. And then enhance the fast response ability of product to market.On the Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0 platform, a set of Database of mechanism system has been developed by Visual C++2005.NET programming language, SQL server 2005 database and Secondary developing tool——Pro/TOOLKIT. Firstly, a new classification method has been added by studying all of the mechanism manuals and related literatures and further researching the classification method of mechanism. Secondly, the development mechanism of Pro/E has been studied, so the overall design plan and realization of every module has been determined. And the function of system is further improved. Finally, the functions has been realized by Visual C++2005.NET, and good human-machine interfaces has been realized. The Database of mechanism has been devided into eight parts, Database module, Mechanism library module, Mechanism retrieval module, Motion simulation module, Movement curve module, Rapid design module, Output module and Help module.Using this system can conveniently and intuitively check the concrete structure of mechanism, know about the movement state of the mechanism, and observe the change tendency of the mechanism motion curve.Consequently,it can make a rapid judgment whether mechanism meet the design requirements in the early design stage.Thus can significantly improve the design efficiency and quality.
