Coal resources are very rich in China: proven coal reserves which are immediatelyavailable reach188.6billion tons; per capita coal reserves are up to145tons; andChina’s coal production makes up31%of the world’s total output. Thus coal is theprimary energy in our country. These years, with the rapid growth of coal demand, thecoal industry has witnessed great development. But at the same time frequent coal mimeaccidents constantly occur and bring serious casualties and economic losses, whichgreatly jeopardizes the construction of a harmonious society. Therefore, the priority nowis to improve coal mine safety monitoring system technology.As a new research field, wireless monitoring of coal has very broad applicationprospects. This paper puts forward a coal mine safety monitoring system based onwireless sensor network technology. Through making full use of the characteristics ofthe wireless sensor network and comparing the features of underground wirelesscommunication technology, it selects the ZigBee technology as a communicationplatform of wireless sensor network to achieve comprehensive and real-time monitoringand intelligent early warning of various environments and production parameters ofdownhole.On the basis of the study of Dongtan Coal Mine’s wireless monitoring system, thepaper designs the hardware development platform on the strength of RE chip ofMSP430and CC240processor. Moreover it gives a thorough description of the detailsof each module of the hardware platform, and embeds the operating system TinyOS inthe hardware platform by virtue of wireless sensor network. The key technology of thewhole system is the wireless sensor network technology, and the flexibility,maintainability and scalability of this system have been significantly enhanced. Thisdesign reaches the purpose of improving the Downhole Monitoring System ofYankuang Co.Ltd, the mine safety standards and also the safety management efficiency.
