Urbanization has significant impacts on regional landscape structure and pattern, which leads to the changes of landscape ecological quality. How to understand the relationship between landscape pattern and ecological quality has become one of the most important and fundamental issues which harmonize the relationship between land exploitation and ecological protection. Based on RS and GIS techniques, this paper mainly focused on the dynamic changes of landscape structure and pattern at the rapidly urbanized area, Xianlin New city, Nanjing. A landscape structure-based model integrating stabilization degree and disturbance degree of landscape ecosystem was established to analyze the pattern of landscape ecological quality and their changes in temporal and spatial scale in the context of rapid urbanization in the study area. The main research contents and conclusions are as follows:(1) Significant changes of landscape structure have been facilitated since the development of urbanization in2003in the study area. The landscape has become man-made landscape from semi natural and semi man-made landscape. Among them, the cultivated land was dramatically impacted by human activities and55.6%area was lost; In addition, the number of pond also reduced a lot and56.4%of them has been lost; however, the area of urban construction land increased7.1%annually. With the rapid change in landscape structure, the pattern of landscape has also been changed. The index of landscape diversity increased from1.38to1.68, and the evenness index also increased from0.60to0.73, the connectivity index varied from0.15to0.32.(2) Because of urbanization, evaluation results showed that the disturbance degree became increased from2003and2009, the area of level4and5was increased by89.3%, and with obvious spatial heterogeneity; in the same time, stabilization degree became seriously declined because of rapid urbanization, with a loss of83.1%of level4and5; as results, the landscape ecological quality became worse than before, the area of level4and5was decreased by82.3%, and the declined degree may become more outstanding in pace with urbanization.(3) Regional landscape quality was not only affected by landscape structure and pattern, water quality was a crucial factor. The results showed that it was only42.0%area with good landscape ecological quality because of water quality index; the area of level2and level3has reached50.2%,which showed paying attention to regional water quality is the key factor to maintain the landscape ecological quality.(4) Temporal and time heterogeneity in regional landscape ecological quality was extremely obviously because of different urbanization intensity. At this moment, the landscape ecological quality in Baixiang area was quite good with81.4%area of degree above level3; each level in Xianhe area was well mixed with an area of25%of them of level3and27.5%of level4; the area of level1and level5were3.7%and11.8%in Qiling area and Qinglong area mainly belonged to suburban area and in level3with an area of42.4%, which was influenced by the Jiuxiang River and cultivated land.
