Wei Zhuang, who is very adept at writing both Tang and Song poetry, has the common political pursuit, similar life experience, and same aesthetic aims with Du Fu. Wei Zhuang takes Du Fu as a model either in topic selecting or poem writing, and he is also noted as writing in Du Fu’s style. Studies on Wei Zhuang’s acceptance of the poetry of Du Fu play a transitional role in the study of the history of acceptance of Du Fu’s works. Divided into four chapters, this thesis takes the acceptance of the poetry of Du Fu as the research subjects, and studies Wei Zhuang’s acceptance of the poetry of Du Fu from the following aspects:Wei Zhuang’s poetry topic selecting, poetry learning, reasons, values and limitations of learning the poetry of Du Fu.The Introduction Part expounds the reasons for writing, research meanings, studies on Wei Zhuang’s Acceptance of the Poetry of Du Fu and general introduction of Wei Zhuang’s acceptance methods. The main part of this thesis can be divided into four chapters:The First Chapter studies Wei Zhuang’s acceptance of Du Fu from the poetry anthologies "You Xuan Ji", which is the only poetry anthology of Du Fu edited by a Tang people."You Xuan Ji" manifests the editor’s theoretical viewpoints, aesthetics and the literary trend of his time. Taking lucid and elegant style as the standard to select the poems, Wei Zhuang excerpts seven poems of Du Fu, which are three times more than any other poets’. The number of the poems of Du Fu reflects Wei Zhuang’s acceptance of Du Fu.The Second Chapter studies Wei Zhuang’s acceptance of Du Fu from the poetic creativity. It studies Wei Zhuang’s transmission of the poetic theme of Du Fu and the reference of the aesthetic writing of Du Fu. As for this chapter,"Huan Hua Ji", edited by Wei Ai, studies to analyze both from the ideas of "royalism","kindheartedness","history senses" and the aesthetic features of "depressed","lucid and elegant" style,"allusion and rhyme using". Wei Zhuang takes an emphasis on the lucid and elegant poetic diction style and the realism writing style of Du Fu, and he writes many poems concerning the common’s life and political allegory. The Third Chapter studies the reasons why Wei Zhuang respects and learns from Du Fu. This chapter illustrates these reasons from three parts:Wei Zhuang’s liking for the personality and the works of Du Fu, the inevitability of art development and the trend of learning the style of Du Fu of his time. The Fourth Chapter objectively comments Wei Zhuang’s learning of Du Fu, and after the affirmation of Wei Zhuang’s inheritances of the poetic essence of Du Fu, this chapter points out the limitations in the poetry creation of Wei Zhuang. This part is the conclusion. Wei Zhuang’s editing of "You Xuan Ji" and his own poetic creation are all further acceptance of the poetry of Du Fu. It is an affirmation of the poetry of Du Fu from the Late Tang Dynasty. Wei Zhuang both inherits the previous achievements and starts a climax of learning Du Fu in Song Dynasty. Thus, Wei Zhuang’s transitional role in the acceptance of the poetry of Du Fu is a very important part in the acceptance study of Du Fu. However, because of Wei Zhuang’s limitation of knowledge and social experience, and the social influences, there are limitations in Wei Zhuang’s works, and that’s why he cannot overcome Du Fu. Consequently, that’s regret for Wei Zhuang’s poetry development.
