Adolescent emotional and behavioral problems are those behaviors which are contrary to the social scene and social evaluation in the absence of mental retardation and mental disorders.These acts are so significantly different from the norm in mood and behavior that influencedindividuals to adapt to normal social life.In our country,the problemhave a a high incidence and more harmful to adolescent.Young people’s emotional and behavioral problems are affected by various factors. Inherent personality traits is one of the important factors. On the basis of previous studies,this study adopt413junior high school students as the sample,and use questionnaires to collect data,in order to explore the influence of Machiavellian tendencies, empathy, and self-esteem to the problems.The study have shown that:(1) Only the man’s correlation coefficient of cognitive empathy with Machiavellian tendencies statistically is significant (r=-0.197),do not support the hypotheses that Empathy-Machiavellianism are polar opposites.(2) The girls’emotional empathy level,and the level of anxiety and depression are higher than boys; Gender has a regulatory role in the relationship between cognitive empathy and Machiavellian tendencies. Machiavellian tendencies can predict the level of boys’ cognitive empathy in the negative direction; Self-esteem has part intermediary role to the reationship of boys’ Machiavellian tendencies and emotional symptoms.It’s fully mediated to the relationship of girls’ Machiavellian tendencies and emotional symptoms.(3) Machiavellian tendency has small negatively influence to boys’ peer relationships, and it has large negative impact to the girls’ peer relationships;(4) Machiavellian tendencies have more behavior problems.
