Adolescents'emotional and behavioral problems are the outcome of multi-factors. Family functioning is one of the important external factors, and cognitive emotion regulation strategy is one of the important internal factors. Based on the existing researches, this study aims to investigate Chinese adolescents'emotional and behavioral problems, their family functionings, cognitive emotion regulation strategies and the relationship among them by using qualitative and quantitative methods.There are ten chapters in the whole paper which can be grouped into three parts. The first part is on the theoretical basis of the whole paper including the first three chapters. The following five chapters are the second part which is the main body of the whole paper that the processes and results of the study are showed. At last is the third part which is the conclusion of the whole paper that includes the last two chapters.The whole study is consisted of five sub-studies, the major contents and results are as follows:1, In order to investigate the characteristics of the adolescents' emotional and behavioral problems, this study surveys 2500 adolescents in Shandong province with questionnaires. The finding:The over-all incidence rate of emotional and behavioral problems is 11.51%. The differences of distribution are highly significant with different conditions. The distribution of emotional and behavioral problems is higher in middle aged adolescents than in younger ones. The distribution is higher with those whose parents'relationship is disharmonious. The adolescents from public schools are more inclined to have emotional and behavioral problems. The distribution is higher with the adolescents who live in school dormitories.2,This study investigates the characteristics of the adolescents'family functionings by using questionnaires. The results:The family functionings of adolescents without emotional and behavioral problems are better. Emotional and behavioral problems may be predicted by ail the mentioned factors except behaviour control. The family functionings of the adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems are different according to their genders, ages, parent relationships, domiciles, the types of attended school.3,Through the depth interviews, the results show as follow:The families of the adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems are ill-functioning. In these families, the affection expression is deficient, the negative emotion cannot be shared, the communication is not smooth, the atmosphere is disharmonious, the support is insufficient. In the families, the adolescents'school performances and future development are the key factors for ill-functioning communication. The families' maladjustment is one of the major reasons of family dysfunction.4,This study investigates the characteristics of the adolescents'cognitive emotion regulation strategies by using questionnaires. The results show:The adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems attend to adopt the negative regulation strategies. Emotional and behavioral problems may be predicted by the following strategies: catastrophizing, positive reappraisal, rumination, blaming others and putting into perspective.5,This study builds the relationship mode among adolescents'emotional and behavioral problems, family functionings and cognitive emotion regulation strategies. It can be found that among the male adolescents, affective involvement and affective responsiveness can influence on the emotional and behavioral problems directly. Communication and behaviour control can influence on the emotional and behavioral problems through positive regulation strategies. Communication, affective involvement and affective responsiveness can influence on the emotional and behavioral problems through negative regulation strategies. Among the female adolescents, the roles factor can influence on the emotional and behavioral problems directly. Roles, behaviour control and communication can influence on the emotional and behavioral problem through negative regulation strategies.In conclusion, the results support the researcher's first theoretical hypotheses and achieved the anticipative research goals.
