Research On Wang Liping’s TV Plays

Since the90s of last century, with the deepening and establishment of the reform andopenness as well as the socialistic market economy system in China, great changes have takenplace in social and family life, and new characteristics have presented in social and familyethics order. Creation of family ethics dramas reflecting the changes also takes on the newlook of flowers of every kind being in bloom, emerging a large number of excellent works. Atthe same time, a variety of problems to be solved also appeared, such as seriousness of subjectmatter’s homogeneity, modeling of plot setting and extremalization of contradiction conflict,deformity of characters’ relationships, confusion of values, etc. If these problems are notsolved, audience will feel aesthetic fatigue for this type of TV plays, and gradually loseinterest.As an excellent representative play writer of family ethics, Wang Liping created a largenumber of excellent TV plays works during decades, her works has a unique culturalperspectives and writing techniques, and it has become an important case study of familyethics play creation.This article is based on Wang Liping’s TV plays, using Narratology, Ethics, Sociology,Communication studies, film and television studies, feminism and other related theory as theinstruction, to sum up the common artistic characteristics reflecting in Wang Liping’s TV plays,and analyze the ethical connotation and social value of her TV plays, in order to contribute toour country’s development of family ethics dramas. This paper includes the following severalaspects:First of all, on the basis of reading the literature material and analysis and arrangement ofthe family ethics play especially Lang liping’s TV plays, to sum up the problems existing inthe family ethics plays and the importance of taking Wang Liping’s TV plays as a case study,and analyze the background and significance of article’s selected topic. On the analysis ofresearch status about Wang Liping’s TV plays at home and abroad, I find no systemicdiscussed works, and this further established the necessity of the study and analysis of Wang Liping’s TV plays.Secondly, sorting out Wang Liping’s growing experience, to analyze the effect of thisexperience making to her TV plays’ theme and writing style; introducing her creatingexperiences and style changes to analyze her drama artistic characteristics in different periods;introducing the important awards her works received, to analyze great social concern herworks obtained.Thirdly, to give narrative analysis on Wang Liping’s TV works. Wang Liping takes theurban family life in social changes, city people’s psychological problems, the lifecircumstances of educated youth and their descendants and hot topic in the development ofsociety as the narrative theme content, uses narrative pattern of many clues and charactersetting mode of a main character and many other characters, uses the diversification of thedramatic conflicts to show the contemporary urbanite life, and applies contrast and setoff tobuild the typed characters, as the characters’ language, she mainly uses the day-to-dayelaborate dialogues, and philosophical language is complementary.Fourthly, to have a deep reading of the change of family ethical order such as the declineof the patriarchal paternalism, the changes of family heart and family pattern, the conflictbetween the concepts of old and new husband and wife and of childbearing, new relation typeof the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, etc, in Wang Liping’s TVplays.Fifthly, to analyze the humanistic care to the living status of women in real life andimplicit feminist discourse in Wang Liping’s TV plays; and to give a research on the value oftraditional virtue of Chinese nation and contemporary standards of beauty, kindness and truthto build a harmonious family, a harmonious society in Wang Liping’s TV plays.
