With the "Chinese craze" warms up continuously, the number of people coming to China to study Chinese increased, including the long-term study in China and Chinese summer camps, which aim to experience China and Chinese culture. Therefore, the form of Chinese teaching is diverse, and at the same time, it will meet many challenges.In this thesis, the author tries to explore the new, and more proper teaching mode which is used for Chinese teaching in the summer camp. That is, applying the theory of thematic teaching method to the Chinese camp. Thematic teaching, is to provide a good learning environment, in which students are highly motivated. The students can contact learning content related to the theme. The teaching materials can sometimes be like a contact way of teaching, and they can be reorganized cross compiling relevant, sometimes beyond the limits between disciplines, integrating the contents and strategies of different areas in the teaching. The thematic teaching in Chinese is a teaching model which considers Chinese teaching as the second-language teaching. Teachers select the representative theme according to the learner’s cognitive level, age, interests and combined with the actual life, organize the teaching activities based on the selected theme. In the teaching process, teachers creates life situation according to the theme, aiming to make the students acquire Chinese in the real life situation. The students can achieve the communicative purpose in the process of participation in the activities related to the selected theme. Thematic teaching method is a kind of open teaching, which takes the students as the center, lets the students using language to learn and learn to use the language. It is flexible, and is not influenced by the constraints of traditional teaching material. This kind of teaching method is suitable for Chinese teaching in the summer camp. The Chinese summer camp has its own characteristics, flexible, practical, crash. The time is relatively short, and the main purpose of the Chinese camp is to experience China and Chinese culture. This determines the language classroom can not focus on the teaching of language elements which is widely used in the traditional language teaching. Instead, the actual communicative needs should be paid more attention. So, the old teaching mode and teaching method is not suitable for the needs of this teaching. Thematic teaching method concerns some theme which students are interested in or close to the student life, and the teachers design the teaching activities according to this theme, the students participate in these activities. During this process, the students can experience pure Chinese, so as to achieve the purpose of communication. At present, the thematic teaching method is more and more widely used in language teaching. In this thesis, the author tries to apply this theory to the Chinese teaching in the summer camp.This thesis includes five parts:Chapter One mainly analyzes the aim and significance of choosing the topic, the theory of thematic teaching and short-term Chinese teaching research are reviewed. Chapter Two states the related theory of thematic teaching method, and thus supplies a theoretical frame to the thesis and expounds this theory applied to Chinese teaching in the summer camp. Chapter Three mainly introduces the teaching procedures, the principle in selecting the theme, and the specific contents and methods in particular topic. Chapter Four makes a case design of a specific course according to the thematic teaching method mentioned in the preceding chapter. The last part makes a conclusion of the thesis, elaborates some implications to the Chinese teaching of the summer camp and points out the limitations of the thesis. |
