| This is a report on translation of “Linguistics and Translation†written by GunillaAnderman, Chapter3of A Companion to Translation Studies co-edited by PiotrKuhiwczak and Karin Littau. This chapter is mainly about the relation betweenlinguistics and translation. Linguistic theories has been used in translation studies forreference and meanwhile the linguistic studies also develops with the help of translation.This translation project is based on the principle of Newmark’s communicativetranslation theory. And this report is divided into four parts. Part One is the translationproject description, including the project background, purpose, and significance. PartTwo is an introduction of the source text, including a brief introduction of the author,the main contents of the source text, and the linguistic features of the source text. PartThree is about the translation difficulties and methods. During the process of thetranslation of this chapter, the difficulties lie in the translation of terminology, names(some of them are non-English names) and the long and complex sentences, especiallythe terminology and the long and complex sentence translation. Therefore, making a fullpreparation and knowing the proper translation methods well, such as division andrestructuring, are of particular importance. Besides these, conversion between activesand passives and conversion between positives and negatives are also adopted in thetranslation of the source text. Part Four is a summary of this report, including theimplication, lessons and unsolved problems in the translation project. |
