This report is based on the translation experience of materials from ManitobaYoung Farmer Nominee Program. When choosing translating strategies, the authorchose Nida’s functional equivalence theory as the theoretical framework. Withemphasis on readers’ response, this theory can be used effectively to discuss thetranslation of the source materials. This report begins with an introduction of thetranslation task, and then focusing on the functional equivalence theory and itsapplication and feasibility in the process of translation. The author lastly demonstrateshow to use the translation strategies under the guidance of this theory to realize thepurpose of equivalence. To make the demonstration clear, there are specific caseanalyses throughout this report. Combining the translation theory with practice, thisreport confirms that the functional equivalence theory and the according translationstrategies are of both practical and theoretical significance. The author hopes that thisreport might be helpful to other translators.
