A Year in High Heels is a book written for young ladies.It covers a wide range ofknowledge and can be used as guidance in life. Many oral and fashion expressionsare used in the book. It is not enough to focus all the attention to the fluency ontranslation. In order to to meet the needs of young female readers, the translator ha toensure the translation is fascinating.The translation can be readings as well as a reference for readers. Readers canexpand vocabulary and improve their English after reading. The translation helpsreaders to accumulate life experience and get to know cultural differences betweenChina and Britain. The tips in the book improve women’s ability comprehensivelyand shape a more outstanding career woman. The book can release office ladies’pressure from work and help them become confident and optimistic towards life.The translator has searched many websites, such as Google, Baidu, and CNKI,and there is no translation found. Some of these kinds of guidance books have beentranslated into Chinese, such as the Weakness of Human Nature and Chicken Soup forthe Soul. The two books mainly analysis people’s spiritual world, with the aim to helppeople maintain the positive attitude towards life. It is difficult to find manytranslations of books on life details. Some writers in China have written books fromsimilar angle, such as Pillow Book for Women and A Woman Must Have Money. Theyand the book A Year in High Heels have may similarities, but the later reflects Westernculture, therefore it could shorten the distance between China and Western countries.It is a chance for Chinese to learn about the fashion life in Western countries.Based on the Chinese version of A Year in High Heels and the research of essaylanguage features and translation methods, domestication and foreignization theoriesare mainly used in the translation process. The author chooses some examples in theChinese translation version to make a thorough research in the above translationtechniques. The author also presents the difficulties in the translation process and thesolution during the translation, in hope of helping other translators who have similar problems and questions in translating book of this kind.In the treatise, chapter one mainly introduces the content of this translation andthe information of the author. Chapter two consists of translation process and timeallocation. Chapter three presents the main translation theories and the difficulties thatare confronted of during the process of translation and the translation theory applied.In chapter four, the researcher draws a conclusion of this treatise.
