As a special language unit, idiom is widely used by Chinese people in their dailylife, and it is an important part of Chinese. In recent years, idiom is gradually fallwithin the attention of scholars and it becomes the keynote discussion topic. So far, theresearches on idiom are confined to the ontological level. It seldom focus on teachingChinese as a foreign language. At the same time, there are still some controversies inthe ontological level. To a certain extent, that brings students some troubles. Based onthe previous studies, this paper attempts to explore the basic properties of three-character idiom by comparing the similarities and differences with the other threekinds of idioms. Analyze the errors that make by the foreign students in idioms usingprocess and put forward a meaningful idiomatic teaching method in teaching Chineseas a foreign language.The paper consists of five parts:The first part is the introduction, which talks about the reasons of choosing thetopic, the purpose and methods of the research, and carries on the summary to theresearch results of predecessors’.The second part is mainly based on the theoretical researches, and summarizes themeaning of the idiom, semantic features, syntactic structures, pragmatic features,origins and points out the research object of this paper and the research category.The third part mainly discusses the significance of idioms teaching in teachingChinese as a foreign language.The fourth part mainly introduces the problems of idioms teaching in teachingChinese as a foreign language.The fifth part according to the above discussion and analysis, puts forward to theteaching of Chinese as a foreign language idioms teaching procedures and teachingmethods.
