Yuan Hong was an important historian,litterateur and metaphysician in the intermediate stage of Dong Jin Dynasty,whose historical works Eastern Han Dynasty Discipline was proved to be the outstanding one of the numerous historical works in The Wei and Jin Dynasties,because of its exclusive writing techniques and the art of language.Consequently, Yuan Hong was more admired as an historian by the later generations.Also Yuan Hong was good at Poems and Papers.whose Poems and Papers recited in the historical technique of writing were provided with ideology and gracefull written language.Yuan Hong’s poems was provided with the characteristics of scholar’s poems which was called by the later generations,also historian’s conciseness and attaching importance to fact could be seen in Yuan Hong’s papers.Though part of Yuan Hong’s Poems and Papers appeard dull because of affected by The Xuan Breeze in that times,the whole creation of Yuan Hong’s Poems and Papers has unique characteristics,which deserves further study and investigation,in order to display Yuan Hong’status and influence in literary history.On the basis of previous studies,this thesis intends to proceed from Yuan Hong’s concrete works,review and analysis the characteristics of Yuan Hong’s Poems and Papers with comprehensive and deep methods,aiming to estimating his achievement objectively and accurately.This thesis is splited into three chapters:Chapter one is the recommend about the environment elements of literary creation about Yuan Hong.including the investigation of the social background of his times,family atmosphere,literary friends and thoughts,which constitute the basis of Yuan Hong’s literary creation,influencing his literary creation from different sides.The second chapter mainly analysis Yuan Hong’s poems.There are six pieces of poems existed. The relatively integrated two of them,the history-intoned pome,which was Yuan Hong’s magnum opus,deeply affected by his historical technique of writing and was provided with the characteristics of scholar’s poems, having the strength and gracefull language at the same time,togethering the life,temperament and learning,so it was an excellent work, and it was of great significance in Eastern Jin Dynasty in which the Xuan Yanshi flourishing. Besides his history-intoned poem,there are still philosophical poetry,ancient-imitated poem and the no titled poem. There is slightly more sense in the philosophical poem,but some implication can be seen. Though the ancient-imitated poetry only has some survival sentences saved,it supplies a gap,because this kind of poetry was deficient between Western Jin Dynasty and the end of Eastern Jin Dynasty. The no titled poetry shows his aspiration by eulogiaing the quality of the pine tree.Chapter three analysis Yuan Hong’s papers. There are four pieces of fu existed,which mainly involves two kinds of themes,warpath and feast,and the two pieces of fu about warpath is more well-known, which is full of emotion and passionate,and is rare at that time. At the same time,Yuan Hong was good at other types of literature,the Bei Mingwen is the most famous. Yuan Hong was one of the representatives of epitaph writer in his times.His writing,some has rigorous form and ornate diction,others has strengthened narrative, inherited the tradition of praising the virtues,as well as manifested the recent development of epitaph at that time.
